Many of Poe's brilliant, descriptive, yet convoluted tales were influenced by powerful, important figures at the time. Influencing writers such as Thomas Moore, Alexander Pope, Lord Byron, Charles Dickens, and Rufus Griswold majorly influenced Poe, though he didn't consider all of them role models. Wanting to be a more influential poet than some of them, he tried to emulate their style of writing, and sure enough many of his early verses reflected the influence of many of their romantics by demonstrating a person’s subjective view in a surreal, and mysterious background in his poetry. All of these authors wrote stories about horror, love, and mystery with exquisite grace and rich language.
